Riwayat singkat YM.

Tahun 1997, Pa Auk Sayadaw menerbitkan buku karya terbesarnya, berisi 5 volume yang berjudul "The Practice that Leads to Nibbana".
Ven. Buddharakkhita

Born on 1971 in Penang, Malaysia.

Ordained in 2009 as a bhikkhu.

Ung Choon was enthusiastically involved in all types of Dhamma activities during his secondary school days. However these precious good times did not last long. His university days were spent studying in the United States where learning and practicing the Buddha's Teaching was not conducive. After coming back to Malaysia to begin his career, he spent most of his time enjoying worldly pleasures and work. Naturally, he did not have to continue learning about what the Buddha taught and seek advice from Kalyana Mitta (spiritual friends). Ung Choon married in 2003.

Soon after his marriage, Choon began to feel the pressures of starting a family. He thought to lead a happy family life meant achieving high material gain. And like most people, chasing after material gains did not bring him true happiness. Along with the stress of career came the desire for success, fame and riches. The sudden death of his father gripped him to see the impermanence of life itself. All the riches, fame and glory will one day pass. This realization weakened his craving for worldly pleasures and aroused a sense of spiritual urgency within. Thereafter, he began to pursue a different kind of happiness, a happiness born of inner peace and joy. And so the Truth Seeker within awoke and the torch of enthusiasm for the Buddha's Teachings was relit! Choon attended a short meditation retreat at Tusita Hermitage (Kuching) in 2008. Inspired by the young Sangha and Venerable U Mangala, he decided to ordain for life.

Choon ordained in 2009 under The Most Venerable Pa Auk Sayadaw began to train under Ven. U Mangala. Soon after the Ven. Buddharakkhita's mother and ex-wife also ordained as Theravada Sayalays (nuns) joined in the spiritual path.

The Venerable attended the 6-month intensive retreat led by The Most Venerable Pa Auk Sayadaw in Pa Auk Tawya Forest Monestary in Maylemine, Myanmar. Under the Sayadaw's guidance, Ven. Buddharakkhita completed the Samatha and Vipassana course of the Buddha outlined by the Visuddhimagga. In the same year, Ven. Buddharakkhita spent the rains retreat in Indian Himalayas with The Most Venerable Pa Auk Sayadaw, Ven. U Mangala and other bhikkhus, sayalays and lay meditators. This was Ven. Buddharakkhita's debut assisting in teaching meditation.

The Venerable is fluent in both english and chinese and is currently assistant teacher to Ven. U Kañcana in Tusita Hermitage (Kuching), teaching meditation to monks, nuns and laity.
