The new MacBook Pro family has a breakthrough battery that runs for up to 7 hours on a single charge (8 hours on the 17-inch MacBook Pro).1 And thanks to advanced chemistry and an innovative new charging method, it can be recharged up to 1000 times — nearly three times the lifespan of typical notebook batteries.2 All in a notebook that's as thin and light as ever.

With batteries, size matters. The greater their capacity, the longer they run. The challenge is that the real estate inside a notebook computer is limited. Millimeters matter. Most computer makers deal with this by jamming as many lithium-ion cells as they can into a removable battery pack, adding bulk to the system. There are a few problems with this approach. First, lithium-ion cells have fixed cylindrical shapes (they look like traditional AA batteries), and they dictate the thickness of the notebook. Also, valuable space is wasted in the cavities between the cells. To increase battery life without increasing the size and weight of our notebooks, Apple scientists and engineers used lithium-polymer. This type of battery can be customized to fit perfectly inside extremely thin enclosures, like those of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.

With the new MacBook Pro, Apple engineers went further. To make the lithium-polymer battery even bigger, they looked for extra space within the enclosure. And they found it in an unlikely place — the removable battery itself. Removable batteries take up a lot of space. They require infrastructure that takes up space. The batteries themselves have to be encased in bulky plastic housings to withstand the wear and tear of handling. Those housings take up more space. And the notebook enclosure has to include mechanisms for a separate battery compartment, such as latches and a door. All those parts take up space that could be used for the battery itself.

40 Percent Greater Battery Capacity
The key to making a bigger battery was embedding it in the notebook. View
To give the MacBook Pro the biggest battery possible without adding size or weight, Apple engineers eliminated all the parts required of a removable battery and embedded the battery into the notebook. This created enough space for a battery with significantly greater capacity — one that can run for up to 7 hours (8 hours on the 17-inch MacBook Pro) on a single charge.1

Charging can have a dramatic effect on a battery's lifespan. Most notebooks charge their batteries at a constant rate, no matter what the battery's condition. This can wear out a battery prematurely. And it's exactly what a new technology developed by Apple, called Adaptive Charging, helps to prevent.

The battery in the new MacBook Pro notebooks is made to be smart. It's built with a chip that talks to each of its cells to determine their precise condition. The chip shares this information with the computer. And the computer uses an advanced algorithm to make delicate adjustments to the charging current, varying it to suit the changing conditions inside the cells. This Adaptive Charging reduces the wear and tear on the battery and gives it a much longer lifespan than ever before — up to five years.2

But charging is only part of the story. The battery innovations in the new MacBook Pro go deeper — into the very chemical makeup of the battery. Apple's team of scientists and electro-chemists developed advanced chemistry that extends the battery's lifespan even further.

The lifespan of a battery is measured in recharges. One recharge is a complete charge and discharge of a battery's energy. A recharge doesn't necessarily occur every time you plug in your notebook; many partial charges can add up to a single full recharge. The typical battery delivers about 200 to 300 recharges before its capacity declines to approximately 80 percent. At that point the battery still works, but its performance is diminished. Thanks to the breakthroughs of advanced chemistry and Adaptive Charging, the battery in the 13-, 15-, and 17-inch MacBook Pro can go through up to 1000 recharges before it reaches 80 percent of its original capacity — nearly three times the lifespan of typical notebook batteries.2

A longer-lasting battery is a more environmentally friendly battery. The removable batteries in most notebooks are designed to be replaced. You use them for a year or two, then get a new one. It's a process in which lots of batteries are used up and discarded. Because the battery in the new MacBook Pro lasts up to five years, it uses just one battery in the same time a typical notebook uses three. And to help ensure that batteries are disposed of in an environmentally responsible way, Apple offers a battery take-back program in 95 percent of the countries in which it does business.

A breakthrough battery for a breakthrough notebook. With the new MacBook Pro, Apple engineers have taken the radical step of eliminating the removable battery, and have embedded a battery with a capacity great enough to run for up to 7 hours (8 hours on the 17-inch MacBook Pro). They've developed advanced chemistry and a charging method that extend the battery's lifespan up to 1000 recharges. And they've done it all in the thin and streamlined MacBook Pro aluminum unibody enclosure, giving you more freedom and mobility than ever before. It's a battery that just works. And keeps on working for years and years. Which is just what a battery is supposed to do.

17-inch MacBook Pro unibody non-removable battery can be removed  (yg sedang diangkat, itulah baterry nya)

So after some geekiness this morning, let's get back on track and show you some interesting gadget dissection findings courtesy of iFixIt. The folks there recently got their geeky surgical hands on Apple latest MacBook Pro which features a new type of battery technology which as you would expect from the likes of the Apple iPhone - it's not removable (by ourselves that is). So as you will have already guessed, this new MacBook Pro battery is actually removable. found out that the battery is actually removable. Though requiring bottom chassis access, the battery was not difficult to replace or remove. Apple secured the battery with three tri-wing battery inside the MacBook Pro's case. But the main good news is that users can definitely replace the battery by themselves but it will most likely break Apple's warranty. yg 17" sampe dua kipas, kalo 13" cuma 1 aja. tapi emang bisa dicabut dengan mudah. asumsi si apple itu kalau versi sebelumnya bisa dari luar tanpa buka chasis nya jadi kali ini tidak dibilang user-replaceable.

Taukah anda bahwa notebook diatas dibuat dari sepotong lempengan aluminium yg kemudian dibutut dgn mesin CNC....(bukan di cor lho)... supaya kuat, makanya baterrynya langsung didalam (gak ada pintu utk membukanya...)

note book ini mendptkan penghargaan :
EPEAT Gold status, the highest standard for environmental performance in the electronics industry.

[spoiler=moreInfo]greener than other notebooks. Complete control over how the MacBook Pro is designed, how it's manufactured, and how it's packaged gives Apple an environmental edge. Take the MacBook Pro display, for instance. Conventional CCFL displays use mercury to create a backlight and arsenic to prevent irregularities in the glass. The LED-backlit display on the MacBook Pro, on the other hand, is both mercury- and arsenic-free. LED backlight technology also conserves energy: This display requires up to 30 percent less power than a CCFL display.

Mercury and arsenic aren't the only toxins absent from the MacBook Pro. Many computer manufacturers have only pledged to eliminate polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and brominated flame retardants (BFRs) from their enclosures and circuit boards. Apple is removing not only PVC and BFRs, but all forms of bromine and chlorine throughout the entire MacBook Pro.

Just how green is the new MacBook Pro? Every MacBook Pro model is ENERGY STAR 5.0 compliant, which means it meets the government standard for energy efficiency. All models have also earned EPEAT Gold status, the highest standard for environmental performance in the electronics industry. And every MacBook Pro is shipped in packaging that's 34 to 41 percent smaller than the original generation. That translates to fewer trees used for boxes and less fuel used to transport more systems on fewer planes. And at the end of its long, productive life, you can recycle almost all of your MacBook Pro.
