Google pedal-powered bike monorail

1. Apakah permasalahan transportasi di Surabaya?
2. Berapa banyakah solusi innovatif yg ada selain TTKS ?
4. Bagaimana kota2 metropolitan di belahan dunia lain melakukan masalah transportasi tsb ?
5. Kenapa terkesan segolongan pihak DPRD "ngotot" membangun TTKS ?
6. Bagaimana jawaban pakar2 dlm bidang transportasi terhadap TTKS ?

[spoiler=more]Technology giant Google is funding $1 million in a New Zealand based company Shweeb that wants to make bicycle monorail pods to transport people around urban areas by pedaling the way one might while riding a bicycle.

"The cost of innovation in public transportation is often very high, sometimes in the billions of dollars," Google spokesman Jamie Yood said. "We looked for a concrete project where the funding available to us with Project 10^100 has the potential to yield impact. Shweeb's innovative approach toward low-cost and environmentally friendly urban transport has the potential for significant impact in the future."

Shweeb is a concept for short to medium distance, urban personal transport, using human-powered vehicles on a monorail. Where users in suspended pods cycle at speeds up to 28 miles per hour and the company is yet to announce where it will build the first network for public use.

The technology giants investments comes from its project 10^100 winners, which solicited ideas for changing the world. The competition received 150,000 from 170 countries and voters picked five, one of which was "Drive innovation in public transport" and Shweeb was chosen as the organization to bring that idea to life.

Melbourne cyclist and Shweeb inventor, Geoff Barnett came up with the Shweeb system while living in Tokyo. As riding his bicycle to work every day was extremely difficult and even dangerous.

"The traffic is incredible, and there's so much pollution. It was always a topic of discussion that motivated the students to talk, because it was a part of their life as well," said Barnett, an Australian who worked in Tokyo as an English teacher during late 90s.

The name Shweeb is derived from the German word "schweben," which means to hang, hover or float.

QuoteCopasan :

Modaro wae koen ... !!!

What kind of capacity can a Shweeb system handle?

A Shweeb track can handle high capacity due to two key factors: Firstly, stations are off-line meaning that, when someone wants to stop, they can switch off the main line and go into a station without affecting anyone else. As such the mainline is always moving at the desired speed. Secondly, unlike road transport, Shweeb pods require no stopping distance between them so can travel back to back. In theory, a single rail could move 10,000 people through a 1m2 airspace.

But obviously capacity is restricted by station throughput. Where maximum capacity is required, pods will be released from a station in groups (or 'pelotons'). A station can have any number of embarkation pods awaiting riders, depending on the length (and number of) platform(s). Given that it takes about 30 seconds for someone to board a Shweeb, a station with one platform of 10 pod lengths could release 10 pods every 30 seconds. This equates to 1,200 per hour on a single line going in one direction.
