Well, I know a little about a scam or clone gsm phone. To clone gsm phone, it's more difficult than scams. I'll not detail a process how to make a clone but I have 1 or 2 advices (just a little move) to protect this scam.
1. crooks can scan your cellphone identity using scanner including the number and unique sn then they program another identity with same card/phone and make a call at your expense. Well, it's not a common crime that I know, but how to prevent this. It's nothing more you can do. I must keep your eyes on your bill. A new technology makes this thing comes easier.
2. Becareful about Eavesdropping, maybe crooks can't scan your cellphone. Listening to your calls and downloading your phone usage records. How to prevent this? Well, shut down your bluetooth wave range or infrared. It's potential to download your records or upload a software to your phone.
3. Ringtones!!! Ah, it's a part of my damn cool stuff. Don't get it free ringtone because it's potentially have been hacked by scammers and can install a virus that damages your phone OR steals confidential information. (;-D just for joke, Don't get an awful ringtone. It can make everyone like me SICK).
4. Don't give your personal information in TEXT MESSAGE (SMS).
5. Last more than 2 advice ;-D. The more difficult is call collisions or maybe we call it 'clone phone'. However, I still figure out how to make this happen. Because we have more than 2 line number in analogue network. My say, it can happen because there are already counterfeit smart cards for digital phones are being made by japan. As far as I know, vodafone are attempting to increase the security of analogue phones using "TACS Authentication" that probably can't make a collision number (or more difficult). The current algorithm we use is COMP128. And there's nothing we can do except the provider change their policies about their own smart card.
This is a hoax that makes me sick to hear about it:
Be careful about someone or sounds like an engineering who asks you to key in #90 for test your cellphone. In practical, their (an engineer) will collect your phone ID and confidential information. Not not, is untrue (false). Don't call me!!! ;-D
