The past is already past.
Don't try to regain it.
The present does not stay.
Don't try to touch it.

From moment to moment.
The future has not come;
Don't think about it
Beforehand.

Whatever comes to the eye,
Leave it be.
There are no commandments
To be kept;
There's no filth to be cleansed.

With empty mind really
Penetrated, the dharmas
Have no life.

When you can be like this,
You've completed
The ultimate attainment.

- Layman P'ang

You don't have to do anything with your mind,
just let it naturally rest in it's essential nature.
Your own mind, unagitated, is reality.
Meditate on this without distraction.

Know the Truth beyond all opposites.
Thoughts are like bubbles that form and dissolve in clear water.
Thoughts are not distinct from the absolute Reality,
so relax, there is no need to be critical.

Whatever arises, whatever occurs,
simply don't cling to it, but immediately let it go.
What you see, hear, and touch are your own mind.
There is nothing but mind.

Mind transcends birth and death.
The essence of mind is pure Consciousness that never leaves reality,
even though it experiences the things of the senses.
In the equanimity of the Absolute, there is nothing to renounce or attain.

When mortals are alive, they worry about death.
When they're full, they worry about hunger.
Theirs is the Great Uncertainty.

But sages don't consider the past.
And they don't worry about the future.
Nor do they cling to the present.
And from moment to moment they follow the Way.

- Bodhidharma

Enlightenment is not something you achieve. It is the absence of something. All your life you have been going forward after something, pursuing some goal. Enlightenment is dropping all that.

Just think of the trees: they let the birds perch and fly, with no intention to call them when they come and no longing for their return when they fly away. If people's hearts can be like the trees, they will not be off the Way.

- Langya

The process of practice is to see through, not to eliminate, anything to which we are attached. We could have great financial wealth and be unattached to it, or we light have nothing and be very attached to having nothing. Usually, if we have seen through the nature of attachment, we will have a tendency to have few possessions, but not necessarily. Most practice gets caught in this area of fiddling with our environments or our minds. " My mind should be quiet". Our mind doesn't matter; what matters is non attachment to the activities of the mind. And our emotions are harmless unless they dominate us (that is, if we are attached to them)--then they create dis-harmony for everyone. The first problem in practice is to see that we are attached. As we do consistent, patient zazen we begin to know that we are nothing but attachments; they rule our lives. But we never lose an attachment by saying it has to go. Only as we gain true awareness of its true nature does it quietly and imperceptibly wither away; like a sandcastle with waves rolling over, it just smoothes out and finally Where is it? What was it?

Forgetting all knowledge at one stroke, I do not need cultivation anymore.
Activity expressing the ancient road, I don't fall into passivity.
Everywhere trackless, conduct beyond sound and form:
the adepts in all places, call this the supreme state.

One stroke and all is gone, No need of stratagem or cure;
Each and every action manifests the ancient Way.
My spirit is never downcast, I leave no tracks behind me,
Enlightenment is beyond speech, beyond gesture;
Those who are emancipated
Call it the unsurpassed.

One stroke has made me forget all my previous knowledge, No artificial discipline is at all needed;
In every movement I uphold the ancient way, And never fall into the rut of mere quietism;
Wherever I walk no traces are left, And my senses are not fettered by rules of conduct;
Everywhere those who have attained to the truth, All declare this to be of highest order.

To learn Buddha Dharma is to learn the self.
To learn the self is to forget the self.
To forget the self is to become one with

If you cannot find the truth where you are,
Where do you expect to find it?
Truth is not far away; it is ever present.
It is not something to be attained
Since not one of your steps leads away from it.

- Dogen

When you forget the good and the non-good, the worldly life and the religious life, and all other dharmas, and permit no thoughts relating to them to arise, and you abandon body and mind—then there is complete freedom. When the mind is like wood or stone, there is nothing to be discriminated.

Angin segar menyapu bumi

zazen quotes(zen meditation quotes)

What we call I is just a swinging door, which moves when we inhale and when we exhale
- Shunryu Suzuki

In the correct  meditation posture your mind and body have great power to accept things as they are whether agreeable or disagreeable.
- Shunryu Suzuki

To meditate does not mean to fight with a problem.
To meditate means to observe.
Your smile proves it.
It proves that you are being gentle with yourself,
that the sun of awareness is shining in you,
that you have control of your situation.
You are yourself,
and you have acquired some peace.
- Thich Nhat Hanh

Drink your tea slowly and reverently,
as if it is the axis
on which the world earth revolves
slowly, evenly, without
rushing toward the future;
Live the actual moment.
Only this moment is life.
- Thich Nhat Hanh

If the mountain won’t move, build a road around it. If the road won’t turn, change your path. If you are unable to even change your path, just transform your mind.

Bila gunung tidak berpindah, maka berjalanlah mengitarinya. Bila tiada jalan, ubahlah haluan. Bila tidak mampu mengubah haluan, ubahlah jalan pikiran.

tiada awal,
benar-benar tiada akhir,
batin lahir
berjuang dan menghadapi kesulitan,
kemudian mati - itulah kekosongan.
