(ChattahBox)—The story of a courageous castaway dog comes to us from Queensland, Australia today. Jan Griffith lost her beloved pet cattle dog, named Sophie Tucker, four months ago, when the dog fell overboard from the family’s yacht during a storm, disappearing in the rough shark infested waters. Griffith and her ship mates searched for Sophie, but finally had to give up, assuming the unfortunate dog was forever lost at sea. Miss Sophie surprised everyone today, when the dog was found on St Bees Island and happily returned to her owner.
After Sophie Tucker fell overboard, she swam six miles through an ocean filled with sharks and, against all odds, landed on the shore of St Bees Island. While a castaway on the island, Sophie survived on wild goats. When the remains of goats started appearing on the Island, a wildlife ranger discovered Sophie and took her to the mainland.
Jan Griffith read about the so called “Island dog,” but really didn’t think it was her own lost dog. However, just to be sure, she went to the marina to take a look at the dog as the rangers brought her in. To Griffith’s surprise and delight, the dog was indeed Sophie Tucker, assumed dead four months ago.
Local residents are amazed the plucky dog even survived the swim to the island without getting attacked by sharks. Once Sophie arrived safely on shore, for her to further survive for four months, is also surprising.
The now rescued castaway canine is happy to be at home enjoying the quiet life, after experiencing enough excitement to last her a lifetime.
