The security of our users is a top priority, and this feature was designed with security and privacy in mind. We've re-
investigated and this is not eligible for a reward, since a user must first enable speech recognition for each site that
requests it. The feature is in compliance with the current W3C specification, and we continue to work on improvements.
Or in other words, it seems that voice recognition behavior is working as intended in the current stable build of Chrome as far as Google is concerned. But Google has modified pop-under behavior, and is looking alternative visual indicators for showing when a website is

Kesehatan / Don't Have a Cow! Here's How to Pick the Best Milk for You
« on: 26 January 2014, 10:44:38 PM »
Whether we're pouring it into ourcereal bowl, adding it to our coffee, or drinking it straight from the glass, we all have preferences in the type of milk we drink. Perusing the dairy aisle at the local supermarket shows just how many choices we have when it comes to old-fashioned cow’s milk (not to mention lactose-free and non-dairy options like soy, almond, rice, and coconut milks), but most of us don’t spend more than a few seconds deciding which carton to
grab. Regardless of variety in fat content,
a cup of cow’s milk is packed with eight grams of protein, 12 grams of carbohydrates, and 300 milligrams of calcium (that’s almost one-third of our daily recommended value !). Milk is also high in many other minerals and vitamins such as potassium, phosphorous, and B vitamins, and it’s one of the few food sources that’s rich in Vitamin D ( due to fortification), which we typically get from sunlight [1] . But with all those common benefits, are there different perks associated with drinking whole, skim, 1% or 2% milk?

 WHAT’S THE DEAL?

Whole milk (3.25% fat) is what comes from the cow before processing , while reduced-fat milk (2% fat), low-fat milk (1% fat), and fat-free or skim milk (0% fat)
undergo processing to remove extra fat that comes from the cream. Besides the noticeable difference in taste, whole milk and low-fat or skim milks differ in their fat, nutrient, and calorie content.

Of the four options, whole milk has the highest amount of saturated fat and calories, with around 150 calories (compared to skim milk’s 90 calories) and four grams of saturated fat per eight-ounce serving. While whole milk has more saturated fat, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing — more and more research suggests saturated fat may not actually be
unhealthy. Whole milk does contain more cholesterol per eight-ounce serving — 24 milligrams of cholesterol compared to skim milk’s five milligrams, but some studies have found that whole milk might not increase total cholesterol, and may actually raise good HDL
cholesterol levels [2] [3] [4] . Still, given the conflicting existing research, and the fact that most diets contain plenty of sources of fat and cholesterol, most doctors recommend making the switch
from whole to low-fat or skim milk .
Making low-fat and fat-free milk involves skimming the cream from whole milk out of the final product. Unfortunately, fat-soluble vitamins D, A, E, and K (which are found in the milk fat) go along with it. As a result, reduced-fat, low-fat, and skim milks contain lower amounts of many nutrients, but milk companies (even some organic brands !) have figured out how to add these vitamins back in during processing to fortify the final product with nutrients,
particularly vitamins A and D. Some brands also boost their product with
powdered milk solids to achieve the thick, white texture we’re accustomed to seeing (since fat-free milk is naturally blue-tinted and pretty watery).
Fortification ensures that lower-fat milks are nutritionally similar to whole milk
and can remain a significant source of vitamins in the diet. Regardless, whole milk proponents argue that fat-soluble vitamins are not as easily absorbed without the milk fat present.

THE ANSWER/DEBATE
Several studies show that low-fat or non-fat cow’s milk can help reduce the risk of osteoporosis and type 2 diabetes, delay natural menopause, and even lower the risk of high blood pressure [5] [6] [7] . Since lower-fat milk contains fewer calories, it’s often touted as a food that aids weight loss and the best milk option for those looking to lose weight, but not everyone agrees [8] .

Choosing skim can shave a few calories off that daily latte, but whole milk might actually be more effective for long-term weight loss. The government recommends drinking three cups of fat-free or low-fat milk per day, but critics
argue that this endorsement (especially the emphasis on low-fat milk) has been influenced by the American dairy industry. Research actually shows an association between skim milk and weight gain, particularly in children — the current theory is that drinking higher-fat milk leaves people feeling satiated longer, so they experience
reduced cravings for other food [9]
[10] [11] [12] .
Plus, milk fat can give the immune system and metabolism a boost, making milk with higher fat content a source of unexpected physiological benefits [13] . For example, the nutrients found in whole milk can decrease the risk of infertility in women, lower the possibility of colorectal cancer for men, and even help build muscle throughout the body [14] [15] [16] [17] .

THE TAKEAWAY
Choosing between whole, skim, or low-fat milk is largely a matter of personal choice in terms of diet, use, and preference. Skim or low-fat milk might be a better choice for people who are trying to hit specific daily caloric goals or those who already obtain a lot of fat from other foods in their diet. For people trying to gain weight , build muscle, or obtain more natural nutrients, whole milk makes a lot more sense. Each option has both benefits and drawbacks, so picking “the best milk” is more about balance than
one right or wrong choice — a little skim milk with cereal, some whole milk in a protein shake, and a dash of 2% in a cup of coffee seems like a good compromise.

This is the Russian cruise ship MV Lyubov Orlova. It disappeared shortly after it left Canada en route to the Dominican Republic, in the Caribbean. Now it has reappeared, floating adrift 2,400 kilometers off the west coast of Ireland.

The Orlova—named after a famous Soviet actress—had been abandoned
for two years before getting lost at sea during transport. The ship disappeared while being towed to the Caribbean Sea for scrapping.

Apparently, the cable that linked her to the towing ship snapped because of the heavy waves. The towing ship crew tried to capture the ship again, but it was all in vain. The weather made it impossible. Finally, the Orlova disappeared.
Everyone assumed the Russian vessel was lost forever in the North Atlantic ocean. Her Automatic Identification System—a system that transmits the geographical position of ships—was offline, so there was no way to locate it. The Canadian
authorities admitted that they had no clue about the ship's whereabouts, claiming that the Orlova wasn't their responsibility anymore because she wasn't in Canada's jurisdictional waters.
Weeks later—on February 1—the Orlova was spotted by the Atlantic Hawk, a supply craft used to ferry materials to and from oil platforms.
The Atlantic Hawk was able to intercept and secure the Orlova but cut the vessel loose on February 4, following orders of Transport Canada, the country's equivalent of the US Department of Transportation. Now she's again sailing on her own, a prisoner of the Atlantic's currents.

http://gizmodo.com/5986097/russian-ghost-ship-mysteriously-reappears-after-two-months

A massive ghost ship has been missing in the Atlantic since last February, along with its potential cargo of "disease-ridden cannibal rats," via BBC Future. Now, it looks like it's headed for the UK.

The Lyubov Orlova was first misplaced on its way from a harbor in Newfoundland, Canada, to the Dominican Republic, where it was to be sold as scrap. A storm sent it loose into the ocean, however, and the Canadian government decided to cut its losses and let it and its crew of hundreds of starving vermin drift. And that's the last anyone saw of it.
It seems completely impossible that today, in the time of Google Earth,
that a 1,400-ton ocean liner could completely disappear. But New Scientist ran a fascinating profile by Richard Fisher on the mystery last month that explains why finding the former polar tourist vessel is so damn difficult. The ever-growing search area, plus the fact the abandoned boat might already be underwater, has made actually locating it nearly impossible.

The closest they've come is an emergency signal broadcast from the ship, about 10 months ago, that placed it about 700 miles from Ireland. Even with that guidance, it couldn't be found.

The New Scientist report also notes that maritime law states that tossing a rope on a derelict vessel allows you to claim it as your own. Which, incredible.

Jan. 15, 2014 — Research carried out in two distinct communities in Colombia illustrates how coevolution between humans and bacteria can affect a person's risk of disease.

Working with colleagues in Columbia and the U.S., Scott Williams, PhD, a professor of genetics at the Geisel School of Medicine and the Institute of Quantitative Biomedical Sciences (iQBS) at Dartmouth, and his graduate student Nuri Kodaman discovered that the risk of
developing gastric cancer depends heavily on both the ancestry of the person and the ancestry of Helicobacter pylori with which that person is infected. About half of the world's population is infected with H. pylori. The microbe usually only causes minor gastric inflammation, but it is also the primary cause of gastric cancer, which is the second- leading cause of death by cancer
worldwide.
Williams' research team studied 233 people from two populations in Colombia, one located in the mountain village of Tuquerres and the other in the coastal village of Tumaco. Rates of H. pylori infection in the two communities are similar (about 90%), but the rate of gastric cancer is about 25 times higher in
the mountain community. The researchers classified the ancestry of the people in both villages and of the H. pylori in each area. In the coastal village, the human population was primarily of African descent. The dominant component of the H. pylori also came from Africa.

In the mountain village, the people were largely Amerindian and had very little African ancestry, and the H. pylori was predominantly derived from Europe.
The researchers examined the connections between human ancestry, the strains of H. pylori, and the severity of gastric disease and made several important findings:
First, among both populations, people of European or Amerindian descent were at greater risk of developing more severe lesions than were people of African descent.

Second, in the mountain community where most people were of
Amerindian or European descent, those infected with African-derived H. pylori had worse outcomes than those infected with predominantly European strains. And third, people from either village who had the lowest percentage of African ancestry had lesions that were more severe if they had H. pylori with a high proportion of African ancestry.

"The interaction between H. pylori and human ancestry entirely accounted for the difference in geographical disease risk," said Kodaman, a graduate student based
at Vanderbilt University, who is working and studying under Williams in the Department of Genetics at Geisel.

Based on their findings, the researchers concluded that coevolution among humans and H. pylori reduced gastric cancer disease risk in the people of African descent.

People of Amerindian descent would have been exposed to European or African strains of H. pylori much more recently, meaning that there would not have been time for coevolution to take place and explaining the worse outcomes
among the villagers in the mountain community.

Yesterday, we published a blog post lauding an extremely important app privacy feature that was added in Android 4.3

. That feature allows users to install
apps while preventing the app from
collecting sensitive data like the
user's location or address book.

After we published the post, several people contacted us to say that the
feature had actually been removed in Android 4.4.2, which was released earlier this week. Today, we installed that update to our test device, and can confirm that the App Ops privacy feature that we were excited about yesterday is in fact now gone.
When asked for comment, Google told us that the feature had only ever been released by accident — that it was experimental, and that it could break some of the apps policed by it. We are suspicious of this explanation, and do not think that it in any way justifies removing the feature rather than improving it.Many instances of apps "breaking" when they are denied the ability to collect data like a location or an address book or an IMEI number can easily be fixed by, for instance, giving them back a fake location, an empty address book, or an IMEI
number of all zeroes. Alternatively, Google could document for developers that these API calls may fail for privacy reasons. A good hybrid would be to use fake data for old versions of the Android API and cleanly defined Java exceptions in
the next API level . As with many other changes that occur across Android devices and Android versions, some app developers might have to do minor updates to keep up.
The disappearance of App Ops is alarming news for Android users. The fact that they cannot turn off app permissions is a Stygian hole in the Android security model, and a billion people's data is being sucked through. Embarrassingly, it is also one that Apple managed to fix in iOS years ago.
A moment ago, it looked as though Google cared about this massive
privacy problem. Now we have our doubts. The only way to dispel them frankly, is for Google to urgently reenable the App Ops interface, as well as adding some polish and completing the fundamental pieces that it is missing:

Android users should be able to disable all collection of trackable identifiers by an app with a single switch, including data like phone numbers, IMEIs, information about the user's accounts.

There should be a way to disable an app's network access entirely. It is clear that a large fraction of apps (including flashlights, wallpapers, UI skins, many
games) simply don't need network access and, as we saw last week, are prone to abuse it .

The App Ops interface needs to be smoothed out an properly integrated into the main OS user interface, including the Settings->Apps menus and the Play Store.

There are numerous ways to make App Ops work for developers. Pick one, and deploy it.

In the meantime, we're not sure what to say to Android users. If app privacy is especially important to you — if, for instance, you want to be able to install an app like Shazam or Skype or Brightest
Flashlight without giving it permission to know your location —

we would have to advise you not to accept the update to 4.4.2 . But this is also a catastrophic situation, because the update to Android 4.4.2 contains fixes to security and denial- of-service bugs

. So, for the time being, users will need to chose between either privacy or security on the Android devices, but not both.

Kesehatan / FDA: Sabun Antiseptik Tak Ampuh Bunuh Bakteri
« on: 17 December 2013, 09:47:26 AM »
http://m.kompas.com/health/read/2013/12/17/0915135/FDA.Sabun.Antiseptik.Tak.Ampuh.Bunuh.Bakteri

Industri jutaan dollar AS

FDA memperkirakan perusahaan produsen sabun antiseptik butuh

Dec. 12, 2013 — Bacteria can evolve rapidly to adapt to environmental change. When the "environment" is the immune response of an infected host, this evolution can turn harmless bacteria into life- threatening pathogens. A study published on December 12 in PLOS Pathogens provides insight into how this happens.

Isabel Gordo and colleagues from the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciencia in Oeira, Portugal, have for the first time devised an experimental system to observe and study the evolution of bacteria in response to encounters with cells of the mammalian immuney system. They found that in less than 500 bacterial generations (or 30 days), the bacteria became more resistant to being killed by immune
cells and acquired the ability to cause disease in mice.

"Escherichia coli bacteria show an extraordinary amount of diversity:
Many are benign commensal bacteria, but some are deadly pathogens," says Isabel Gordo. "It is thought that many strains of E. coli that cause disease in humans evolved from commensal strains. We thought that experimental evolution would be a powerful tool to directly observe some of the steps E. coli may take in the transition from commensalism to pathogenesis."

Kesehatan / Maccha (matcha) green tea powder
« on: 08 December 2013, 07:54:34 PM »
Matcha ( 抹茶? , pronounced [mat.tɕa] ), also spelled maccha, refers to finely milled or fine powder green tea .

.
.
.
Matcha can now be found in numerous health food products ranging from cereal to energy bars. In 2003, researchers from the University of Colorado found that the concentration of the antioxidant EGCG available from drinking matcha is at least three times greater than the amount of EGCG available from other commercially available green teas. Matcha is also said to boost metabolism and help reduce cholesterol levels when
it is drunk regularly.  The aforementioned health benefits of matcha green tea can largely be attributed to the fact that the whole tea leaf is ingested, as opposed to just the steeped water in the case of 'bagged' green teas. This means that it delivers a much higher potency of catechins, chlorophyll, and antioxidants By weight, matcha contains several dozen times more antioxidants (> 1000
mmol/100g) than blueberries (~9mmol/100g), wolfberries pomegranates , orange juice, spinach (~1mmol/100g) or dark chocolate (~11mmol/100g).

There evidence from clinical studies that suggests that theanine , when consumed by drinking Japanese green teas, may help to reduce or moderate mental stress
responses.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matcha
