Strategies for learning a New Language
1. When you learn, try to use as many senses as possible. the senses are sight, sound, taste,
touch and smell.
e.g. A new Word or phrase, look at it, say it out loud, listen to it, repeat it often.
2. New Word or phrase, study it in context.
Learn it as part of the sentences not just by itself. learning a word in context not only helps you
remember the word in context not only helps you remember the word but the way it is used.
3. Try to learn words that are related to each other. learn new words in groups.
e.g. Word connected with sports, the media, personality and technology.
4. You must use as much language as you can outside. read magazine and newspapers, listen to the radio
or watch TV in the language you are studying.
5. Don't be afraid of making mistakes, if you are making mistakes try to understand the mistake and
correct it.
6. Don't worry about understanding every word, nobody understands every word, try to understand what
you are reading, if you don't understand the general meaning try to build a picture in your mind. Don't
try to,learn everything at once. Break if down, try to space things out over a period of time. do a bit
every week and relax.
