Los Angeles Launches First Bicycle Friendly Business District



Los Angeles just launched the city’s first Bicycle Friendly Business District (BFBD) in Northeast L.A., and it will serve as a pilot program for a larger citywide initiative in 2015-16. The public- private partnership aimed at bringing more cyclists to commercial corridors will install bike infrastructure including parking (racks and corrals), repair stations, bikeways, signage and maps of the bikeway network.




The Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) pilot program is a partnership with Occidental College Urban and Environmental Policy Institute and Cyclists Inciting Change thru Live Exchange (C.I.C.L.E.) “to bring together community partners into a consortium that will envision and pursue amenities and events that will make Northeast LA neighborhoods more friendly to bikes through both infrastructure, business, and cultural offerings [sic].” The BFBD
bicycle infrastructure will be installed along Colorado, Eagle Rock and York Boulevards, and N. Figueroa Street.


“A BFB might offer discounts to people travelling by bicycle, bicycle-themed promotions, bicycle-friendly amenities, benefits to employees who bicycle, or other incentives,” writes Elizabeth Gallardo of the LADOT Bike Blog.

Los Angeles is not the first local jurisdiction to launch a BFBD program. The city of Long Beach has already piloted six BFBDs that in addition to bike infrastructure include cargo bikes for deliveries, promotional Bike Saturdays and Kidical Mass bike rides.

The City of Angels is currently in the midst of implementing its 2010 bicycle master plan with an ambitious goal of building more than 1,600 miles of bikeways — 40 miles of new bike paths every year until 2045.

Tampaknya kota kota besar dunia mulai membuat jalur jalur khusus bagi pengendara sepeda, munculnya kesadaran penghematan bahan bakar hingga bisa mengurangi impor bahan bakar hingga bisa menghemat devisa negara, juga mengurangi polusi perkotaan dari kendaraan bermotor, hingga kesehatan warga yang lebih baik pada akhirnya mengurangi biaya kesehatan yang di tanggung kota atau negara, arus kesadaran kearah pro pengendara sepeda mulai tampak di kota kota besar dunia dan pemerintahan.

 Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo has implemented the new policy which requires civil servants at the city administration to leave their cars at home on the first Friday of every month. Jokowi himself rode a bicyle from his official residence in Taman Suropati, Menteng to the city hall yesterday.

The regulation, stipulated in the Governor Instruction Number 150 of 2013, is expected to reduce traffic congestion in the capital. The impact of the governor instruction was evident in the parking area of the National Monument (Monas).
The parking area, which is usually full of cars of the Jakarta officials, looked less crowded. "There are not too many cars parked today," said Irwan Effendi (56), a parking official. In fact, the parking space was full of bicycles owned the by officials.

A similar situation was also found at the office of East Jakarta mayor. There were not many cars parked in the parking space of the building.

Nevertheless, although the security guards were on patrol to ensure that officials did not enter the building using private cars, some escaped the security guards.

Siapapun yang pernah terjebak macet pasti tahu kalau mobil memakan waktu, amarah
dan uang. Di Jerman tengah dibangun jalan tol sepeda untuk mendorong lebih banyak
komuter memilih sepeda ketimbang mobil.

Cibulski adalah jurubicara bagi klub bersepeda nasional Jerman ADFC - namun ia

Namun ADFC bertekad untuk mengubah angka tersebut. Sebuah studi yang digelar

perjalanan di bawah 5 kilometer dijalani dengan sepeda dan bukan mobil, hampir 6
juta ton emisi karbondioksida dapat dihindari per tahun - empat persen dari seluruh
emisi yang diakibatkan lalu lintas sehari-hari.

Jalan tol sepeda dua jalur

Survey juga menunjukkan bahwa para pesepeda umumnya lebih cepat mencapai kantor
ketimbang pengendara mobil. Saat mobil terjebak macet, sepeda dapat melaju di antara
mobil-mobil yang mengantri. Sejumlah pesepeda, seperti Cibulski, cukup beruntung
untuk memiliki jalur sepeda yang memadai untuk perjalanan mereka.

"Di kota saya di Bremen, banyak orang yang bersepeda ke kantor, jadi para pejabat
pemerintah merespon dengan membuat jaringan jalur sepeda yang baik," jelasnya.
Pemerintah negara bagian Nordrhein-Westfalen (NRW) ingin selangkah lebih maju dan
membuat jalan tol sepeda untuk mengurangi kepadatan jalan.

Jalan tol sepeda pertama di Jerman rencananya memiliki panjang 85 kilometer melalui
pusat-pusat kota termasuk Duisburg, Essen, Bochum dan Dortmund. Pemerintah ingin
memperbaiki jaringan jalur sepeda di kota-kota besar lainnya seperti Köln dan Düsseldorf.
Pemerintah NRW juga tertarik untuk mendorong warga menggunakan sepeda dalam
perjalanan jarak jauh.

Pesepeda nantinya akan memiliki jalan tol dua jalur selebar 4-5 meter dan dilengkapi
sejumlah lampu lalu lintas. Serta ada rencana untuk menambahkan lampu-lampu jalan,
rambu-rambu dan bahkan pusat pelayanan untuk beristirahat atau reparasi sepeda.
